Boston Massacre
With
regard to Boston Massacre that happened on 5th March 1770, it is evident that
the arrival of his majesty troops in Boston could have triggered the conflict
with the inhabitants. First, I try to think that the residents considered the
arrival of the soldiers as being abhorrent since they have never used their
influence to weaken the troops. Additionally, the soldiers were brought into
contempt by enhancing and aiding desertions and by extension with impunity.
This has been depicted even where facts are evidence, and they get involved in
propagating false issue concerning them. Therefore, I think that the Boston
Massacre was a terrible mistake that the troop could not manage to avoid, but
some critical measure could have helped.[1]
I
think that the massacre was a terrible mistake because the arrival of the
troops created an animosity with the inhabitant, and their embarkation is
always associated with great violence. Unfortunately, one of their Justices who
was well-informed about the behavior of the people and understood the intention
of the inhabitants by then informed them of the impending danger. I suggest
this could have taken place during the trial of a man of the 14th Regiment and
declaration was made by the people, and it was directed to the troops. The
soldiers were being informed to take care of themselves, and they should no
longer trust their arms since they were few. The inhabitants come along with
weapons which were hidden in their cloths and they were willing and able to
take a fight any moment.[2]
Furthermore, the reason why I said the Boston massacre was a terrible mistake was due to the reaction of the soldiers towards such kind of environment which was not appropriate since they could easily tell the extent in which the inhabitants were willing and able to take a fight with them. This was evident enough for them to formulate a strategy that would help them relocate to another region for their safety and that of the inhabitant. Additionally, the top soldiers were well-informed about the past conflicts that have existed between the people and the troops. Suddenly, these disputes were kept secret to the officers so they couldn’t know how dangerous the situation could be. For this reason, it confirms that Boston Massacre could have been prevented in case appropriated measure such as informing the troops about the disputes that have existed in the past were disclosed.[3]
Additionally, I think that concealing of the conflict that has existed between the soldiers and the inhabitants was one of the contributing factors to the Boston Massacre. Since these were new officers who were deployed in his majesty, they did not have full information of these conflicts that have happened in the past. Similarly, if the top officers knew about these issues, they would consider increasing the number of soldiers rather than bringing a handful of them. Conversely, if the troops were many, this would have instilled fear among the inhabitants, and they would not have engaged the soldiers in a fight. Hence, the Boston Massacre emerged due to ignorance of the top officers and failures of the soldiers to take drastic measure to counter the inhabitants.[4]
In essence, as I had mentioned earlier the Boston Massacre had numerous loopholes that could be prevented by the top officers and that made it a terrible mistake. First, the officers knew about the disputes that have existed between the inhabitants and the soldiers. For that matter, they would have let the soldier know about this issue and also increase their numbers to counter the people. Most of the conflicts that emerge in the society are as result of ignorance and lack of critical strategic measures.
