High Dropout Rate for Black Youth
Education is an important aspect of our lives and has been used as a transforming tool over the years. Attending and eventually completing every step of the education system is essential in ensuring one is able to have a secure and stable future. This is mainly through gainful employment or the ability to innovatively come with sustainable business ideas and see them through to ensure they become successful businesses. However, statistics indicate some disheartening high dropout rates of young black Americans, especially in tertiary level education (Nces.ed.gov). The statistics show that the black youths have been dropping out of school more as compared to white youths. It is quite discouraging considering the fight for equality over the years by former leaders to ensure equal access to education for children of all races.
It is hence, important for the government as well as professionals who have successfully gone through the education system, to take the initiative of sensitizing the black youths as well as any other youths affected by the high dropout rate. The community colleges and universities in the United States should also ensure they create a conducive atmosphere for these youths. This will motivate them to stay and even complete their education if they have a support system that encourages and makes the benefits of education evident. It will also greatly reduce the number of black youths involved in criminal activities mainly because they lack any other source of livelihood (Nces.ed.gov). The community leadership, parents and any other involved stakeholders in the education sector should take it up as their initiative to ensure the dropout rate of black youth is addressed. This will guarantee them a better shot at a stable and happy life in future.
