What
The Health
The
documentary film “What is Health” critiques the health impact of meat and other
daily products consumption. It advocates for the plant-based diet. It focuses
on how diets affects our health and environment, as well as how food
industries, businesses, and public policies affects what we consume. It argues
that hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities do little for diabetes
patients. It gives examples of patients living in the united states and other
countries in the world. The films examine the relationship between diet and
diseases. The movie thesis is, patients who go vegan for two weeks are able to
cure a great deal of their signs and systems of diabetes.
The
film uncovers the consequences of highly processed industrial animal food to individual health and the greater community. It
also explores why leading health organizations
promote these foods despite the many medical types of research and studies that show their harmful effect on people’s health. The movie
begins with the Chief Medical Officer for the American
Diabetes Association, Dr Robert Ratner, researching
the number of diabetic patients in the world (Time). He finds out that there are 350 million people
with diseases all over the world (Netflix). He, then researches how many dollars the government
spends on the people with diabetes. He finds out that a third of the Medicare
dollars go to the people with diabetes.
He also finds out that one of every ten healthcare dollars are spent on diabetes patients. Considering the number of individuals in the world
with diabetes, this is a lot of money that the government spends on diabetic
patients.
According
to the film, processed meat and dairy products are the primary causes of diabetes but not sugar. The buildup of fats in the blood causes
insulin resistance and prevents sugar from getting into the cell. Consuming one
serving of processed meat increases the risk of developing diabetes by 51% (Netflix). Dr.
Neal Barnard argues that “diabetes id not and never was caused by eating a high
carbohydrates diet, and it is not caused by eating sugar”.
The
director achieves his purpose by doing the things he needs to do for his goals. The director goes to almost every health
website to see what it recommends to people with diabetes to eat. He then goes to health care and asks why they are recommending
these bad foods for people with diabetes.
One
strength of What the Health film is that it gives significant information
about health and the best diet to eat. The viewer can learn that importance of a
vegetarian diet in reducing the chronic diseases. The medicine from the
hospital only helps for a short period
while diet helps for a lifetime. Another strength of the film is that it gives
examples to prove that being a vegetarian
is healthier than using medicine. In the movie, there is an expert who testifies that
sugar does not play a role in diabetes
development.
The
weakness of this film is that it is full of hallmarks of lousy communication on scientific studies.
Multiple studies should be conducted to conclude.
Secondly, the film is biased against meat and dairy products. There is a lot of sway from the vegans. The
film pushes the agenda of pro-vegetarian and pro-vegan rather than centring around the health topic. Besides, the
film cites studies and doctors who are biased too. The film also lacks
legitimacy. Only the vegans are interviewed
who makes claims against the meat and dairy products. Actually, most of the interviewee does
not have sound science behind whatever they say. The filmmakers are just taking advantage
of the emotions of people to sway them
towards the veganism. Further, the filmmaker
did not get all the answers that he wanted regarding
food on health websites. For instance,
whenever he asked why some of these sites some recommended a particular type of food, most did not have a
definite answer. They just said they were
classified (Netflix).
My
overall response is that the film is a good and long movie. I have learned
various ways to be healthy. For instance,
I now know the importance of including vegetables in my diet. I have also
learned that I should not always trust the health websites and the food they
recommend. There are many websites and online business that are recommending processed food, which poses a high risk of getting chronic diseases.
I
find this movie to be interesting because it tells of the foods that
I should eat to be healthy. I find the
argument that vegetables are better in curing illness than medicine to be
interesting. Also, I got to know that diabetes is not caused by eating a high
amount of sugar or carbohydrates. I have also learned that are about 3000
people who die annually from the foodborne
illness in the United States. Low-fat based diet is more than twice as powerful
at controlling and reversing diabetes than the diet recommending meat or dairy
products.
This
movie relates to my health class because they both focus on how to live a
better life. They advocate for the rights things to our bodies. They assert
that eating healthy can make one live longer. However, the health class is more
detailed in giving information about living a healthy life. It focuses on many
diseases, both chronic and acute. It focuses on teaching students about health
while the movie targets all individuals in society.
It builds on the knowledge, skills, and
positive attitudes. Its objectives are teaching students about their physical,
mental, emotional, and social health. On the other hand, the movie only shows a
sure specific thing about health like drugs, processed meat, and dairy products. The filmmaker argues consuming vegetables can sure
illness much better than drugs.
I
would recommend this movie to other people especially those suffering from
various diseases including diabetes. The film will help them to become better
persons in life. It will also help them to realize
that eating a plant-based diet is very
healthy. Not all animals that we eat are healthy. Further, viewers of this movie can take a lot of advice from it. The filmmakers Kip Anderson and Keegan Kuhn have gone a great job in
seeking the truth. Every person needs to
watch this documentary, and they will be amazed
by how government influences and controls their lives for the greed of
money.
The
movie talks about how health cares do nothing useful for people. However, they
think they are helping us by giving us unhealthy foods (A.U.M. Films). Their foods create the risk of getting diseases such as cancer. In fact, they place a person at a high risk
than smoking. From the movie, animals take about 450 drugs for people to eat.
The movie also tells about commercial
animals that are largely fed with
genetically modified foods (GMO) such as corn and soy.
From
the movie, I notice that the filmmaker was determined to find the answers as to
why the health cares and etc recommends
unhealthy foods that can cause diabetes and cancer. I also notice that the
American Cancer Society encourages produced meats, which the films state as bad
as smoking cigarettes. Another thing that I notice
from the movie is that 25% of the death in the united states are caused by cancer. The information that I
have from the World Health Organization
(WHO) is that about 17 million people die from cardiovascular diseases. For
instance, in 2016, an estimated 17.9 people died from CVDs in 2016. About 75%
of these deaths take place in the low-
and middle-income countries (World
Health Organization n.p)
In
conclusion, the movie is mainly about the importance of staying healthy and
having a healthy life. It is important to eat vegetables because it can cure
some sickness better than taking medicines to cure something like a headache. The movie plays a significant role in helping
individuals feel good healthwise. It relates to the health class because
they both focus on how people should live
a better life without consuming meat. The biggest weakness of the movie is that
the director could not find all the answers to his questions. Overall, What the Health film is a good movie and entertaining to watch.
